This month, OnePlus released OxygenOS Open Beta 6 and 4, both of which are based on Android 8.1 Oreo, for the OnePlus 5 and 5T, respectively which brought new auto pick up gesture, general bug fixes and improvements. Now, the company has released Open Beta 7 for the OnePlus 5 and Open Beta 5 build for the OnePlus 5T which bring some changes to the Launcher, Weather and Gaming mode among other things.
Both the beta builds for the OnePlus 5 and 5T come with similar improvements. For the Launcher, OnePlus has added a recent search tag in search app section of the app drawer along with some general bug fixes and improvements. For Weather, the company has improved the accuracy of current location, added new icons and updated the the user interface as well.
As for the Gaming mode, the update will significantly boost network performance so that users experience a more seamless gameplay when playing over the internet. Gaming mode on the OnePlus 5T already block notifications and calls for better gaming performance. The last Open Beta build for the OnePlus 5 also included power saving and pausing adaptive brightness during Gaming mode.
The OxygenOS Open Beta build for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will be available OTA for open beta testers. You can also follow the flash instructions and download the update, which is about 1.61GB in size.
The latest beta builds come during a week when OnePlus confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 6 will have a notch. The company not only confirmed the notch but also posted a detailed explainer of why the notch is inevitable in the hope that fans embrace it. Following OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei’s tweet that people need to “learn to love the notch,” fans lashed out at the co-founder, which is likely the reason behind the tweet being deleted. Recent beta builds have also added gesture navigations for the OnePlus 5T, which is another iPhone X-like feature.
